Elka System 3 adjustable steering damper For all makes & models A steering damper acts to eliminate road vibration frequencies passing through the steering column that can bring about sudden and uncontrollable oscillation of the handlebars: a phenomenon commonly referred to as the 'tank slapper'. There are basically two approaches to the design: a 'plunger'-type (such as the Hyperpro below) and the adjustable 'rotary dial' type, as typified by the System 3 damper from Elka. Adjustable steering dampers are favoured by racers who may vary the damping effect as they ride - backing it off to quicken up the steering, then dialling it up to enhance stability for straight line speed. The Elka System 3 is a beautifully engineered, adjustable steering damper. With its race-proven performance and effectiveness we choose to fit these steering dampers to the racing motorcycles that we build.
